We’re delighted that you will be coming to India to pursue your IAESTE Internship. India is a vastly diverse country with multiple cultures within the same country. With the increased diversity comes a diverse amount of paperwork. To assist you in preparing for your arrival, we’ve listed out a few points you should keep in mind.
All Foreign Nationals coming to India are required to possess a genuine and valid national passport or any other internationally recognized travel document establishing his/her nationality and identity and bearing a photograph of the interns. Citizens that are exceptions to this rule are Nepal and Bhutan nationals. However, you must carry your proof of identity with you. Further, if they are entering India from a place other than their own country, then possession of their national passport is a must.
Immigration check is conducted for all passengers both at the time of arrival and departure. The passports are duly stamped at time of arrival as well as departure. Passengers should be careful to see that their passports are duly stamped before leaving the immigration counter. Foreigners arriving in India are required to fill Arrival Cards. If inadvertently, an immigration stamp is not affixed by the counter officer at the immigration checkpost, the passenger may immediately contact the concerned FRRO/FRO/SSP and get the same affixed on his/her passport to avoid inconvenience at the time of next travel abroad.
You must ensure that you have a visa valid for at least your complete internship duration in India. IAESTE India will not be responsible for any VISA Extensions or issues related to the same. Also, arrival to India should be only on a Student/Intern Visa. “Change of purpose” of visit of international students to India is not allowed once they arrive in India. Therefore, please make sure to arrive with the right category of visa.
All foreigners visiting India on long term (more than 180 days) Student Visa, Medical Visa, Research Visa, Intern visa or Employment Visa are required to get themselves registered with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO)/ Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) concerned having jurisdiction over the place where the foreigner intends to stay, within 14 days of arrival. However, Pakistan nationals are required to register within 24 hours of their arrival. All interns of other nationalities are required to register with the FRRO/FRO concerned within 14 days of arrival. If the intern intends to stay in India for more than 180 days, he/she should get himself/ herself registered well before the expiry of 180 days from the date of arrival with the FRRO/FRO concerned.
